John Marx was a 1981 graduate of Big Piney High School and established himself as one of the many fine male swimmers to perform for the Punchers. During his years as a Puncher, John was named to the All-State team in each of his last three years. During that time, John won six first place championships and two runner-up finishes at the state meet. In addition, he was a member of the 400 yard free relay and 400 meter free relay teams that set state records in both 1980 and 1981. The meter record still stands to this day. His six gold medals have set a standard that no Puncher swimmers have yet to reach. John contributed three first place finishes in the 1980 State Championship season for the talented Puncher team. John's value to Puncher athletic programs has continued with his two sons currently performing at high levels for present Puncher teams.
