Gary Rees
Class of 1967
Following his graduation in 1967, Gary Rees studied diesel engineering at Weber
State University. After a two-year stint, Rees found employment at U.S. Steel
where he served as a fertilizer sprayer in southwest Wyoming for the counties
of Sublette, Teton, Uinta and Lincoln.
In 1972, Gary went to work for Belco Petroleum as a pumper in the local
oilfields. He worked at Belco until March of 1976. It was at that time that Gary
Rees purchased his first water truck and in essence began his forty-eight years
as owner and operator year of Mountain State Water Service. In 1985, Rees
built his shop in Marbleton and occupied at that space until 2009 at which time
he built his new office and shop on Calpet Road.
As a resident Marbleton, Rees became politically involved with his community
by serving of the Marbleton Town Council. He also served time on the Sublette
County grazing board over the years. His service to both the communities and
the county can also be found in his willingness to offer his equipment and
manpower in times of emergencies within the county.
His unselfishness can also be witnessed in his generosity to events such as
Chuckwagon Days, and the Sublette County Fair by purchasing livestock from
local 4-H youth. Gary Rees was also one of the first individuals to make more
than generous donations that enabled the Big Piney Hall of Fame to get its start
in 2010 to honor past athletes and distinguished alumni of BPHS. Mountain
State Water Service has been a yearly donor to the scholarship fund at Big Piney
High School again helping our local youth succeed.
Married since 1974, Gary and wife Jennifer have three children: Tami, Michelle
and Jeff, all graduates of Big Piney High School.
