Tharon Greenwood graduated from Big Piney High School in 1940. She and her husband Jim owned and operated the Bar Flying V Ranch just south of Big Piney for many years. The Greenwoods have four children; Jill, Celeste, Elizabeth and James Jr., all whom graduated from Big Piney High School.
Tharon attended both Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and the University of Wyoming in Laramie. She graduated from UW in 1944. She served on the Big Piney Board of Trustees for nine years, eight of which she chaired the Board.
In 1990 Tharon received the distinctive honor of Ranchwoman of the Year; she is a past president of the Green River Valley Cowbelles and is presently President of the Bar Flying V Ranch Company.
Tharon was involved in many other civic; state and national organizations, among which were the following: Sublette County Library Board for five years and was chairperson for two years; Past Matron of the Big Piney Chapter No. 42, Order of Eastern Star; was on the Board of Directors of the State Bank of Big Piney and Key Bank of Wyoming; was a member of the Wyoming State Board of Health for six years; has been very active in the Republican party, having served as Committee Woman and President of the Sublette County Republican Women when that club was active and a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma. She is on the Board of Directors for the Green River Valley Museum and is an active member of the Community Congregational Church.
