Graduating in 2002, an outstanding career as a multi-sport athlete ended for Jared Holgate. This three sport athlete lettered ten times as a Puncher during his time as a student/athlete. Despite not winning as many All-State honors as some of his team mates, Holgate’s dedication, hard work, and especially his leadership proved vital to the athletic successes of Big Piney High School. Jared Holgate is one of two Punchers ever to be a part of eight conference or regional championships as well as seven Wyoming State Champion teams.
As a trackster, Holgate qualified in the pole vault for the Wyoming State meet all four of his years. As a senior, his career best vault of 12’6” earned him a fourth place finish and helped insure the Punchers of their fourth straight Wyoming State Championship. He was All-Conference as both a junior and senior in his event and led his talented Puncher teammates to four conference championships.
Holgate’s achievements in football matched those of his track career. He was a two year starter on both offense and defense and was used in a variety of positions as needed. During his junior and senior years, Holgate’s Puncher teams won twenty games losing only two but brought home both Rocky Mountain Championships as well as both Wyoming State Championships in those two years. Add to that the state championship of his freshman season and Holgate owns three state football championship medals.
In basketball, Holgate lettered for two years and help lead his team to a Rocky Mountain Conference Championship as a senior.
Leadership and dedication did not end with his graduation from Big Piney. Jared Holgate joined the army and served his country well. He was an Infantry Team leader and earned numerous medals and ribbons during his service tenure. His competitive spirit didn’t end as he won first place in his Infantry Battalion’s Machine Gun Competition. Lastly, Jared Holgate was deployed to campaigns in both Iraq and Afghanistan as a soldier for the United States of America.
