This Puncher swimmer helped establish a tradition for the Puncher swim teams that would last for years past his graduation. Beginning in his freshman season, Scott Mackie made his mark by qualifying and then placing in two events at the Wyoming State Swim Meet.
During his sophomore year, Mackie earned his first All-State Award by placing second in his specialty the 200 Individual Medley. During the next two years he would exceed that by winning gold in that event. He also earned the gold first place medal as a member of the 400 free relay.
In the four years as a Puncher swimmer, Scott Mackie stood on the awards stand a total of twelve times. In addition, his Puncher teammates finished in the top four on three occasions including bringing home the runner-up trophy in 1976.
Scott Mackie’s commitment to the Big Piney swim program extended later in life as he officiated many of the swim meets for Big Piney School District at both the high school and middle school levels.
As a community member, Mr. Mackie has also found himself supporting all the athletic programs either through monetary donations or catering for team meals. He is also made contributions to this Big Piney Hall of Fame program that we celebrate the achievements of many Puncher athletes and Alumni which will now include the name of Scott Mackie.
