This 1992 graduate of Big Piney High School excelled in both the classroom and the athletic arenas. Six times in her four years of action, she was named to first team All-Conference honors. On three occasions, she was selected as a Wyoming All-State athlete. Success in the classroom was no less significant as she worked her way to Salutatorian honors of her graduating class.
As a basketball standout, Candy Tefertiller was a starter from her freshman year onward. She was named to the Rocky Mountain All-Conference first team as a freshman and sophomore. An ACL injury kept her from completing her junior year but as a senior she returned to the hardcourt to lead her team to the Wyoming State basketball tournament and again earned Rocky Mountain All-Conference honors as well as being selected to the Class 2A All-State team.
In volleyball, Miss Tefertiller again netted first team All-Conference honors for three seasons and was named the Rocky Mountain Conference Player of the Year as a senior. Highlighting her volleyball career was being named to the Wyoming Coaches Association All-State team both as a junior and a senior. Candy Tefertiller’s athletic career did not end with her graduation from Big Piney High School. She furthered her academic and athletic successes as an All-Conference volleyball player at Casper College. After her stint at Casper College, Candy enrolled at Mount Olive College where she continued as both a basketball and volleyball standout.
At this South Carolina school, she was a two-year captain of both teams. Candy was not only selected as the Carolina-Virginia Athletic Conference’s Volleyball Player of the Year but also as the CVAC Most Outstanding Student/Athlete. While at Mount Olive, she also received NCAA Academic All-American honors as a junior and a senior. In 1996, the NCAA awarded Miss Tefertiller with the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and she finished her physical therapy studies at East Carolina University in 2000. In 2008, Candy Tefertiller was inducted into the Mount Olive College Sport Hall of Fame.
