For this project we're told to draw a picture of ourselves, in black in white. The point of this project I think was to get used to values, and dark and light. I made this piece with multiple pencils an erase, a kneaded eraser and a blending stick. The first thing everyone did was we gridded our photos (on paper), then I did the same thing on the paper I would be drawing on. I marked each line by numbers to know which line was which then I started from the darkest point up.
The main elements I used for this project were Value and Texture. This project was mostly about value so it seems obvious that this element is on top. You can see I used value to get a smooth transition from dark to light. Texture is the next element I think, because the sweater (as well as my hair) I was wearing at the time had a lot of texture so in the piece I tried to implement that as much as I could. These two I think create balance, with these two elements you could show so much; without value when you implement texture, the piece would look flat.
The thing I was most proud of in this piece was my sweater, I think I captured the feel and the texture pretty well and the values were pretty much on point. I could have done much much better with my eyes, they are unproportional compared to the photo and the shape is slightly wrong.
