5 frames per second

watercolor, transparency paper, digital print, Mod Podge, bristol board

7x12"

I created this piece because I had the idea of breaking down what movement is. If you think of movement in terms of animation, movements are just pictures shot at a high fps rate. I decided to break up an animation I came up with in my head into 5 different frames, where an object is falling. Starting as a simplified style of most of the objects I created in this portfolio, it becomes detailed once you stack the frames side by side.

I started with a sketch, then got to work on the object frames in Procreate on an iPad. Once they were done I printed them out on transparency paper and cut them out, then cut out a bristol board backing so they would be viewable on the watercolor background that I would create next.

I chose to do a shift going from red to blue with the watercolor background because it represents how a viewer might see the actual animation if it were an animation. As the object falls it becomes more blue, literally and figuratively.
