I created this piece with the original idea of a balloon-type structure, but that changed quite drastically. I wanted to do something harder, but not too hard. This was the perfect start because it implemented a lot of circles and curved edges. In a way, I think it got me acclimated to the material very quickly, and helped a lot with my next piece. The difficulty of working with tape was actually not as bad as I expected, but scissors and an exacto knife were essential.
The material is clearly painter's tape, but I also used scissors, a soft brayer, and an exacto knife. I actually didn't start with the cheese at all; I started by making a large rectangle that seemed to be the size I wanted for the piece, and then in the confines of the rectangle, I "sketched" out my piece. The rectangle just gave me a sort of base to work with. Then it was just a matter of going back in and reworking the lines to be smoother.
Something I wanted to implement was the shadows of the cheese wheel, and although it's not what I imagined, I actually like it this way. I also think it stands out a little more and makes people look at it before really understanding what all the lines are.
This is the next and final tape mural made to look like a falcon. We were given a picture of a falcon and were told in no specific manner, to make the picture in tape form. Or I guess just use it as a reference. It was honestly a rough start but I like how it turned out. I felt more like a tattoo artist doing something somebody else wanted but I guess it was a change of pace from my regular art.
Also made from tape, I used scissors, a brayer, and an exacto knife. Although this time I didn't use my previous boxing method. I'm not sure why, but I just felt like I didn't need to use it.
The best choice I made was definitely to do the falcons dark spots. I think it worked really well just ripping the ends of the tape and creating texture throughout the piece. It also just overall added more detail as well.
