For this project we were asked to create a collage from magazines, newspapers-- anything that was flat that could be glued onto the given paper. I (stupidly) used an art magazine, showing master renaissance painters paintings. That was a mistake. I came up with three ideas and I chose the one that appealed to me most, and that happened to be the half alien, half skeleton sketch I had done a while in my sketchbook. Then we were told to then recreate that collage using only the primary colors, black and white.
I used color and texture to create rhythm and contrast. For my “Alien” I used green, and for the shirt I used a dark yellow/brown and black. Then grey blue, black and white for the skeleton. Textures were a big part of this project because collages oftentimes have a ton of textures from using magazines and such.
I think the best part of this piece is that-- for the most part, I managed to create the bulk of the colors. I think the worst thing in this piece is the colored paper I tried to recreate (in the background of the character); I painted the yellow paper and did not go into small places because I thought that it would be easier to do it later. But, I got the color wrong and it's pretty obvious.
