I created this piece with the idea of this goblin character having multiple emotions. I wanted him to feel anger, sadness and have him wish for his childhood again. I also wanted to try out a dark setting with oil pastels.

Most of the piece is made of oil pastels, with the exception of the square in the middle being colored pencil. I started with a sketch, then went in with oils, and then colored pencil.

I wanted his present self to feel muddy, dark and gloomy and the contrast being the square he is looking into, being clean and well rounded (while still being foggy). I made it seem like he is looking back at is childhood, and even though he is still angry (hence his eyes in the present), he wishes he could go back to his childhood (hence the dark room in the present, contrasting the bright square).
