AP art and design 2

Final Reflection:

I struggled this year with my art, mainly because I started on the drawing portfolio which is not my style of art. Although I made it work in the end, I feel like my art has felt lackluster comparatively from last year. Regardless, I can see that I've improved, especially in the drawing department- things feel more shapely, are better shaded, and overall feel like they have more depth to them. #1, #7 and #13 are good examples. This portfolio has shown that I much prefer flatter colors, and when I do add much more texture, shade, and depth it becomes much more tedious and takes 5x the time. #1, and #2 I struggled with this time, and I procrastinated way more than usual. And I've noticed the more tedious and detailed, the more I procrastinate because I get bored of something so repetitive quickly. But when that work is done, it is much much better than the less repetitive, less tedious work. So It's mentally very challenging, but the result is beautiful. Every work was a challenge this year. I did not like having to keep in mind all of the drawing elements that I needed to hit. The hardest piece skill-wise was the duck stamp; it's the best rendering of a realistic thing I've ever made and took like 60-70 hours (30-40 hrs more than last year). #1, #13, and the duck stamp. #1 and the duck stamp took the most time out of all the other pieces, but the result is pretty much exactly what I wanted. #13 took very little time, but I love the process with transparency paper, and experimenting with that makes me happy. I'm gonna be doing more tedious pieces this summer, maybe on a much bigger scale, and I also want to do some plein-air and oil painting.
