investigation #12
happy birthday?
30x20.5
cardboard, acrylic paint
I created this piece because I wanted to show emotions through my characters, but in a different way. Instead of having the "goblins" be the focal point, I wanted them to still show emotion, but have them be secondary. The monotone character is bored, annoyed- emotionless, but on the inside (showed through the "goblins") he is excited, and is jumbled with emotions. I actually was not going to make him black and white because I wanted to test out a technique I thought of, but I thought the point would get across better if I made him black and white so I switched it.
The piece is on cardboard painted with acrylic. I started with a sketch on a random piece of paper, and then transferred the sketch onto a big piece of cardboard, outlined with sharpie and then painted many many layers.
I made him black and white because I thought it would be a little easier to understand that he is bored/annoyed, and the goblins are the only ones colored because they are the ones with the "happy" emotions.
