tile design

I created this piece based on the assignment to create a tile design that connects. I saw that most of the tiles were square and I wanted to switch it up a little so I made my tiles connect to make a circle instead. I know I wanted to have one of those stone faces from Easter Island in Hawaii, so I came up with this design where the head is chasing after this butterfly. Each tile represents a different time of the day, so he's been chasing the butterfly all day. 

This is made from clay, but we made molds from plaster of the original tiles so that they were produceable. The original tile had a sun at the top of it, but after I produced all four I took the sun off of 3 of the tiles and replaced one with a moon. But they're more or less completely the same. 

This pretty much came out exactly how I wanted it to. The only annoying thing was after the tiles dried they didn't fit perfectly so I had to sand down some of the edges.
