eyelight
silk screen fabric ink, gesso, fineliner
8.5x11"
I made this artwork with the idea of a specific exquisite corpse we did as a class. I took inspiration from the head of the creature and made it into a sort of sunflower with an eye.
I've been trying to layer my projects more meticulously because I keep running into problems if I dont think about it beforehand. So for this piece I decided to actually think about it. So I sketched out my idea, mixed silk screen ink for the background and applied the background. Then I re-sketched my flowers overtop of the background, then used gesso for the flowers. Finally I taped out where I wanted my light beams and mixed some orange and yellow and red-orange and used a gelatin print for the beams.
I decided to keep the flowers white because I've never really done anything like that before, and I wanted to challenge myself to create depth and really just an interesting painting with only one color. And also it allowed the beams to stand out even more. Lastly I made the beams more textury to stand out further, and for the viewer to tell that its been applied in a different fashion from the rest.
