investigation #11

unwanted death

gouache, watercolor, fineliner, goldleaf

5x9"

I created this piece with the idea of nearing death, and showing the time left people have alive. I was inspired by old religious portraits with arches as their backgrounds and a lot of gold leaf.

I started with a sketch, and then just mixed purple for the background and painted the background- let it dry, then painted the people. After the painting was done I drew outlines and the "death goblins". Finally was the goldleaf, which I used size for the glue.

I wanted to convey peoples time left alive with the candles on their head. I also wanted to show their fears and pains of knowing that they will die soon with the expression on their faces, and the "death goblins" forcing themselves out of the peoples mouths.
