sgraffito tile

The idea for this tile came to me randomly. I have always enjoyed drawing pills, they're such a simple shape that when they are opened they could contain nearly anything. it was my first and final idea. 

I used clay, underglaze, and a scraper. First I took transparent paper and drew my idea, and transferred it onto the softened clay, then I waited for it to dry. Finally I carved into the semi hardened clay.

The crack was not intentional, but I think it ads to the piece and that is the reason I left it. The crack could be referring of the dangers of substance abuse, and addiction who knows.
