revision (investigation #5)

I created this piece because I wanted to replace a piece in my sustained investigation (SI #5). I completely changed the idea and composition; In this piece I wanted the characters to be representations of emotions. The only resemblance in both pieces is how 2-dimensional each representation of emotion is, just like in SI #5 where there was Happiness and Sadness in the form of characters. 

I started with a brain-dump sketch, then refined that sketch, and finally started on the piece. The whole thing is done with a mixture of colored pencils. 

I made the representations of emotions very 2-dimensional because, in reality, that's how feelings and emotions are. I tried to amplify the feeling of 2D by outlining the characters just like stickers. It's when emotions mix that they start to become complicated, to express this I faded between colors for the repeating rings.
