a soft sharp
colored pencil, watercolor, gouache
10.6x6"
I created this piece with my investigation in mind: how can I give life and movement to abstract objects? It started as a Diptych (where two pieces of art coincide as one), but in the end, I really just wanted to focus on the second piece in the Diptych, because I found it more interesting. The idea of this piece is that the objects seem initially soft and round on all edges, but when you squeeze it shoots out spikes at you.
This will be mainly colored pencils, but I also want to add some very textured elements to the back, like oil paints or oil pastels. Those will have to be added at the end so that I don't mess up my colored pencil.
I'm using red for the second half of this piece because red pops hard, and gives you the impression that something bad has happened. It also works well with sharp objects such as these spikes.
