David Linn White's Story:
Born and raised in Worcester MA, David Linn White has endured two eventful wars and carries with him the memories and lessons he has learned. In David’s early life he attended North High School in Worcester, where he participated in the school’s crew team. David graduated from high school in 1944. He went on to attend Harvard University and joined the crew team.
In November of 1944, during his first year of college he was drafted into WWII. He served bravely as a rifleman with the 71st division stationed in Southern Germany. During his service David was able to travel to many different countries one being Italy. After he had finished his service he went back to graduate from Harvard with the class of 1948.
Soon after graduation David was recalled into the Korean War where he served as a direct commission second lieutenant in the 40th infantry division. In February of 1952 he was called to active duty as a rifle platoon leader at Heartbreak Ridge. In November he was wounded and sent to Japan to recover and on Christmas Eve 1952 he was sent back to Heartbreak Ridge where he resumed active duty.
After the war, David worked as a lawyer. He married Eugene White and together had four children, Carol, David, Jane and Christopher. Due to the bravery and dedication shown through his service, David has earned a purple heart and silver star.
During his interview, David shared with us his truly unique and inspirational journey and we thank him for sharing his story.
