William F Tyler's Story:

William F. Tyler was born on August 31, 1930 in Mineola, Long Island. He grew up with his parents and his older brother. He went to Tufts University and mastered in history. After college in 1952, Bill joined the U.S. Navy in the worry of being drafted. His fiance was already in the Navy. He was only 22 years old. He went through many weeks of rigorous training. Bill was assigned as a diving and submarine operations officer for UDU. Bill enjoyed being deployed. He loved his men. Bill traveled to the Arctic in a submarine, to survey the ice. He also visited Mt. Fuji, Japan. After many trips of blowing up coral reefs, Bill decided to join the reserve. His love for being deployed was still there, however leaving his family was too much. Bill joined the reserved and retired as a commander. He started teaching and coaching swimming. During the summers him is his wife Barbara would come down to the Cape. Barbara and Bill decided to build a house in Dennis, MA and start a swimming school there. He didn't make profit from this because all the money he was making was going to housing so he could teach. Barbara then came up with the idea to teach at private school. He started teaching at Deerfield Academy, where boarding was complimentary. Soon they were making profit from the swimming school. Bill started coaching swimming off his own branch of the Cape Cod Swim Club.

Today, Bill is still living in Dennis, MA. He continues to coach with Cape Cod Swim Club and run his summer swimming school at his house. Bill also continues to expand his Japanese stamp collection. He enjoys sorting and selling Japanese stamps to people all over. He doesn't get profit from it, however he enjoys staying busy. To stay fit, Bill swims 6 days a week at Ocean Edge in Brewster, MA and exercises at his house.
