"I felt good that I met the responsibility that they asked of me and I was very fortunate that that did not include being in the middle of a battlefield but I think like when we need to vote, we need to defend our country when asked to serve."

Robert Green's Story:

Robert Green's story is unlike most Vietnam accounts. Instead of hand to hand combat, he was an instructor at the Naval Academy. Drafted at the age of eighteen, he left his home in Michigan to live at the Maryland Academy. Since his father served in WWII, he was delighted to follow in his footsteps. In the Navy, he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, he committed three and a half years to serving our country and put his personal goals on hold. He used his past knowledge of physics to contribute to preparing these young men for war. He ended up meeting the love of his life during this period and is still happily with her today. During his teaching years at the academy, his wife gave birth to two beautiful children. He greatly appreciates the memorial in Washington, DC dedicated to the 55,000 soldiers who lost their lives in Vietnam.
