Robert Bishop's Story:
Robert Bishop was drafted into the military in March of 1943 along with this brother. He went through basic training in South Carolina at Camp Croft, then to Fort Mead in Maryland, and then went to Fort Dix New Jersey. After all of the training he became a military policeman and went to the beaches of Normandy in France. He went into France eight hours after the first fleet.
While in Normandy his duty was to find lost paratroopers. He formed a very close bond with his General. He also witnessed his girlfriend being blown up when they were supposed to go on a date. He was still affected by it after the war. Right before Christmas in 1945 he returned home.
Robert Bishop died on February 28, 2011.
