Warren Somerville's Story:

Warren Somerville was born in upstate New York on August 25th, 1919. As a young man, Warren wrote stage shows and musicals that were performed in New York City and in Boston. Mr. Somerville celebrated his wedding day in January of 1941, mere months before he would be shipped out to fight in the world’s most infamous war, World War II. Warren enlisted in the U.S Navy two weeks after the United States declared war on Japan, and became involved in World War II, because he believed that he had to, that it was his obligation as an American. Warren was a yeoman in the Navy; performing small but important jobs on the ships he was stationed. He spent most of his time stationed in the South Pacific, and spent some time in port, in states such as California and Hawaii. Mr. Somerville did see combat but he never found himself in direct fire. Warren Somerville returned home after Japan surrender and U.S celebrated victory. He returned home to his newlywed wife to try and regain the life he had left behind him. Warren spent a while working small jobs before he landed his job working for the “American Broadcasting Company” , more commonly known as “ABC”. Warren remained there for 40 years, working aside many famous musician and actors, such as Sammy Davis Jr., before retiring to Cape Cod. He witnessed horrors in the war, but also witnessed some of the greatest moments of his life. Warren did the jobs in the military that kept the military going, he was one of those men who didn't see any combat, but did the jobs that kept the soldiers in combat able to do their jobs. He is a true American hero who has done his part for our country.
