Robert Ellingwood's Story:
Robert Ellingwood was born in 1928 in Providence, Rhode Island. At the age of 17 he and his friends decided to enlist in the US Marines. Soon he found himself located at Parris Island in South Carolina for his basic training. After basic training in South Carolina he was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Soon after he entered the military, the war ended and he was discharged in September 1948.

After the war he came home and eventually went back to school to become a high school teacher and then a guidance counselor which he remained until he retired. Today Robert resides in West Warwick, Rhode Island with his wife.
