Meeting Our Alumni: Tisal Edirisinghe Shares University Insights
Tisal is an inspiring example of academic and professional success. He secured a place to study Engineering at Trinity College, University of Cambridge in December 2013, graduating with a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Mechanical Engineering in 2018. He then completed a PhD at Cambridge in early 2022 and now works as an Acoustics Engineer at Mott MacDonald, an engineering consultancy firm.
During the session, Tisal shared his insights into the Cambridge undergraduate application and interview process, offering practical tips to help our pupils prepare. He emphasised that while the process may have changed slightly over the years, the core principles of preparation, confidence, and understanding one’s subject remain crucial.
It was a valuable chance for pupils to ask questions and gain guidance from someone who has successfully navigated the same path, helping them feel more confident and informed as they prepare for their own university applications.
The visit gave pupils a unique insight into life at a world-class research institute. Our pupils enjoyed a guided tour of the facilities and a presentation on diabetes delivered by one of QBRI’s expert scientists.
This experience was particularly valuable for those considering future studies in health, biomedical, or life sciences, providing a real-world glimpse into cutting-edge research.
Highlights of the day included:
Exploring state-of-the-art laboratories
Learning about current diabetes research
Interacting with scientists and asking questions
