What a truly magical week we’ve had at Doha College Primary as we celebrated World Book Week - a joyful celebration of stories, imagination, and the power of reading! The buzz around books has been infectious, and it’s been wonderful to see our school community come together in so many creative ways.
A personal highlight was stepping into the shoes (and beard!) of Gandalf for World Book Day - although most of the children believed me to be Dumbledore from Harry Potter! From classic characters to modern favourites, the costumes worn by our pupils and staff captured the spirit of the day perfectly. It was a reminder of how books can transport us to other worlds, inspire creativity, and connect us to one another.
We were also thrilled to welcome British author Toby Glover to our school. Known for his brilliantly funny Mark Shark series, Toby captivated our young readers with his energetic storytelling, behind-the-scenes insights, and passion for writing. His sessions sparked plenty of laughter, thoughtful questions, and judging from the standard of writing in the Mark Shark competition, perhaps even inspired some future authors among our pupils!
Throughout the week, our classrooms have been filled with book-themed activities: parades, bookworms quizzes, brilliant stories and creative writing challenges. It’s been heartening to see such enthusiasm for books from children of all ages.
Thank you to our wonderful staff for making the week so memorable, and to you, our parents, for supporting reading at home. Whether it’s a bedtime story or a trip to the bookshop, these moments matter deeply.
As we move forward, let’s continue to nurture our children’s love of reading all year round. After all, as Gandalf might say, “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us” - and reading is always time well spent!
