In particular, we focussed on the idea that everyone belongs, everyone matters, and everyone has something special to contribute. During our assembly, the pupils explored this through a lovely story about a box of crayons. Each crayon was a different colour, with its own strengths and beauty, but it wasn’t until they began working together that they created something truly wonderful.
The pupils reflected on how our school is just like that box of crayons, a place where everyone’s uniqueness adds richness to our community. When we appreciate our differences and include others, we make our school brighter, stronger, and happier.
The pupils thought deeply about what inclusion looks like in everyday life. We explored the idea that small but powerful actions can help to make everyone feel connected and valued: saying good morning to everyone, sitting next to someone new, listening with respect, and celebrating mistakes as part of learning. During breaktimes, we discussed how inviting others into games, noticing who might be alone, playing fairly, and encouraging one another with kind words and actions can also make a big difference. Small acts joined together have a multiplying effect.
It was heartening to see how naturally the children connected these ideas to our values and to real moments in their daily routines. These conversations build empathy and remind us that inclusion isn’t just a word, it is something we do, together, every day.
As families, you play a vital role in reinforcing these values at home. Encourage your children to notice and include others, to appreciate differences, and to speak up when someone is left out. Together, we can nurture a culture where every child feels seen, valued, and part of something special.
We are all unique, different and diverse, but Doha College is something we all have in common and this unites us.
