In a recently published book, Tiago Forte argues that in an age where we are all bombarded with information, we all need to get better at processing and cataloguing this information to aid the learning and retention process. His suggestion is that we all work to build a ‘second brain’ where we outsource the ‘remembering’ process to the plethora of digital tools we have at our disposal. His methodology involves using a four-stage process to engage with new learning - capturing the information, organising the information (using a process he calls PARA - projects, areas, resources and archives), distilling the information by pulling out its essential meaning and expressing the information by integrating it with what you already know.
Whilst the tools Forte presents are new, the essence of what he is recommending has its lineage in the commonplace books of ancient philosophers. Long before the digital and information ages, great thinkers were compiling their knowledge in such compendiums - and, more importantly, were using them to solve the great problems of their day.
There is much our students (and all of us) can learn from this approach to both help aid our understanding and retention of critical information and concepts and to develop the ability to synthesise multidisciplinary learning.

In this week's assembly, our students embarked on an exciting journey into the fascinating world of nature and wildlife as we delved into the life and work of the legendary David Attenborough. We also thought more about why the Year 4,5,6’s have chosen David Attenborough as one of our inspirational figureheads for our upstairs corridors. The assembly served as an inspiring exploration into the tireless efforts of this renowned natural historian and broadcaster whose passion for the environment has touched hearts worldwide. Students were captivated by Attenborough's awe-inspiring documentaries, which have not only brought the wonders of the natural world into our homes but also raised awareness about the critical importance of conservation. Through this immersive experience, our school community gained valuable insights into the interconnectedness of all living things and the urgency of protecting our planet. As we reflect on Attenborough's remarkable career, we are reminded of the power of knowledge, empathy, and action in creating a sustainable future for generations to come.

Dear Parents,
This week, I am thrilled to be in a position to celebrate our Year 10 Girls' Football Team, who were victorious in the pursuit of the U16's QUESS Football tournament this week. This victory for our girls' team, in conjunction with the long list of other sporting successes we have had this year already, only serves to reinforce our underpinning philosophy.
We are wholly committed to nurturing our students' holistic development and well-being, emphasising the vital role that sport and collective effort play in shaping well-rounded individuals. I feel pride in all of our students, not because they return to DC with medals around their necks, but because they choose to place themselves in situations that truly test their resolve and challenge their decision-making and communication levels when it matters the most.
Well done, team DC!
