Whilst this may seem a very remote concern for our students, the earlier they start focusing on healthy habits, the happier and more balanced they are likely to be. Attia emphasises the significance of personalised approaches to health, recognising that what works for one person may not work for another. Throughout the book, he draws on scientific research and his own experiences to offer insights and recommendations to anyone interested in enhancing their quality of life.
The book is built around a recommendation of a number of things we should all focus on to avoid what he calls the four horsemen (type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, cancer and neurodegeneration):
Exercise: Attia stresses the importance of regular physical activity for longevity. He recommends a combination of aerobic exercise, strength training, and flexibility exercises to improve cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and overall fitness.
Nutrition: Attia advocates for a balanced and nutrient-dense diet, emphasising whole foods such as vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, and healthy fats. He suggests minimising processed foods, refined sugars, and excessive carbohydrates.
Sleep: Adequate sleep is essential for optimal health and longevity. Attia discusses the importance of establishing a consistent sleep schedule, creating a conducive sleep environment, and practising relaxation techniques to improve sleep quality.
Stress Management: Attia advocates for stress-reduction techniques such as mindfulness meditation, deep breathing exercises, and engaging in enjoyable activities.
Mindset and Purpose: Attia highlights the importance of cultivating a positive mindset and sense of purpose. He discusses the impact of psychological factors such as optimism, resilience, and social engagement on overall health and well-being.
By adopting these strategies, Attia argues, we can all, regardless of our age, live longer, more fulfilling and healthier lives filled with vitality and purpose.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

We want to take this opportunity to inform you of an important update regarding the use of microwaves in the school cafeteria. Moving forward, the cafeteria team has decided not to allow students to use the canteen microwaves to heat food from outside sources. This decision was made with careful consideration for the health and safety of our students.
While we understand that this change may inconvenience some families, we believe it is necessary to prioritise the well-being of our students and maintain a safe environment within the school premises. There are several health and safety issues associated with allowing students to use microwaves to heat outside food, including:
Cross-contamination: Microwaves used to heat outside food may come into contact with various allergens or contaminants present in the food, increasing the risk of cross-contamination for students with food allergies or sensitivities.
Improper food handling: Students may not handle outside food properly, leading to the risk of foodborne illnesses if the food is not stored, reheated, or handled at the correct temperatures.
Microwave safety: Improper use of microwaves, such as overloading the microwave with food, using inappropriate containers, or heating food for too long, can pose safety hazards such as fire or burns.
Hygiene concerns: Ensuring proper hygiene practices, such as washing hands before handling food and using clean containers, may be difficult to enforce when students bring in outside food to heat in the microwaves.
To ensure the health and safety of all students, we kindly ask for your cooperation in adhering to this new policy. The school cafeteria offers a variety of nutritious and delicious options for students to enjoy during lunchtime, and our team is committed to providing meals that meet high standards of quality and safety.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we strive to create a safe and healthy environment for all members of the Doha College community. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

As part of their curriculum, our Year 9 students had the opportunity to work on projects of their choice, delving into topics that truly captivated them. Following their diligent efforts and the creation of splendid displays, they eagerly presented their projects to their peers, parents and teachers.
Congratulations to all students for their outstanding projects at this year’s Science Fair!
After careful consideration and consultation, Doha College Secondary School intends to implement Yondr pouches beginning next academic year. The intention is to support our existing phone-free policy and encourage an environment of better relationships and learning without distraction.

We are thrilled to announce that FDC has generously donated funds towards new netball kits for Doha College. This much-needed update comes after nine years, and with the recent successes of our netball teams in both QUESS and BSME tournaments, the timing couldn't be better.
Over the past three weeks, Doha College has hosted several netball tournaments, showcasing the talents of over 130 girls from Years 7, 8, and 9 across four teams in each year group. Earlier this year, our senior teams, U16 and U19, triumphed in the QUESS leagues and tournaments, solidifying netball as one of our most successful sports. In total, over 180 girls have represented the school in netball this academic year, highlighting the amazing levels of participation.
In addition to our competitive teams, we also have dedicated games sessions for recreational netball, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to enjoy the sport. We are excited to expand these opportunities even further next year, encouraging more students to get involved.
The new kits will enhance the appearance of our players and boost their confidence, allowing them to look and feel as great as they perform. A special thank you to Dalia and FDC for their generous support in making this possible.
We look forward to seeing our teams continue to shine in their brand-new kits!

This year, FDC has truly strengthened the connection between parents and the school, empowering families to be actively involved in their children’s education. Through various events, FDC not only supported additional academic programs but has also fostered a stronger school community.
This year has been remarkably successful, with a big turnout to events and flourishing community spirit. The funds raised through events will undoubtedly make a positive impact on our children’s educational experience. I extend heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated FDC Core Committee Members, Parents Representatives, and Volunteers for their time and effort selflessly given to the school and FDC.
FDC's fundraising efforts have included events such as second-hand uniforms, flower and bake sales, car boot sales, and the spring fair, which have funded computer science programs and coding for Secondary school students, as well as a climbing apparatus for primary school pupils to enhance physical development. In the realm of sports, FDC is funding new uniforms for the girls' netball team and new basketball hoops. FDC’s altruism extended beyond fundraising events: coffee mornings with educational workshops, community breakfasts for parents to engage with each other and the school, and the Gingerbread House Workshop in December. Furthermore, FDC held a Cultural Day on Palestine and Commemorated the English Language Day with quizzes and prizes for Secondary School Students.
As we continue to build on this year’s success, we are seeking innovative parents to nominate themselves for the new FDC Committee by emailing fdc@dohacollege.com by the deadline of Friday, 17th May at 12.00 pm.
We are looking forward to welcoming new enthusiastic parents who can make a difference and be part of the journey of enriching Doha College student’s education.

Please note that we will adopt the hot weather timetable with effect from Sunday (12th May) so the first break will be the longer break of the two until further notice and certainly until the end of term. This is to provide maximum opportunity for pupil activity before the temperature is too hot.
On Tuesday 21st May 2024, your child will be invited to wear their cultural and traditional dress, or country colours.
During the day, there will be a Culture Fair for pupils to take ‘a trip around the world’, a costume parade, a showcase of ‘My Country’ Projects and much more!
Parents will be invited to attend the showcase of projects on the day. Please see your child’s Class Dojo for more information.
