This accolade is not just a reflection of our academic excellence but a testament to the unwavering dedication, hard work, and belief of our entire community - our esteemed staff, our brilliant students, our supportive parents, and our extended community, who have all trusted and contributed to our shared vision.
Together, we have made Doha College a beacon of educational excellence, perfectly embodying our motto: 'Excellence from All, Excellence for All.'
I extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for playing a pivotal role in this journey. Let us continue to inspire, support, and uplift each other as we strive for even greater heights.
We will share more information next week, so keep an eye on our social media channels.
This week, I also had the privilege of attending the Future of Education Summit here in Doha, and I was invited to contribute to a panel discussion on what the future of education looks like, how schools and universities should be preparing for this future and the potential benefits and concerns of this future direction of travel.
It was refreshing to see how much ahead of the curve Doha College is in its approach to integrating technological changes - including the proliferation of AI - into its educational provision in a holistic way which truly benefits the learning of all students.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

In Primary, students will be celebrating ‘Book Week’ from Sunday 3rd March until Thursday 7th March with many exciting activities happening across the week to foster a culture of reading and appreciation for literature. Within English lessons, there will be a particular focus on female authors and characters to link with International Women’s day. Students will also have the opportunity to take part in a sponsored read to raise money for the Education Above All Foundation.
On World Book Day, Thursday 7 March, Primary students will be invited to come to school dressed as a beloved book character.

We're excited to invite all students to express their love for stories by dressing up as their favourite female character from any book or as their favourite character (of their own gender) from a book written by a female author. Alternatively, embrace the spirit of International Women's Day by dressing in purple. Let's fill our school with colour, creativity, and inspiration!

Year 6 travelled to Oman, where the two groups experienced the independence, personal growth, and learning that comes from such a journey! They had the opportunity to try rock climbing, hiking, water sports, and other team-building activities, all while camping at the beautiful beachfront campsite. These experiences are crucial for a child’s development, ones that will live long in their memories and be retold for years to come! Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff who accompanied the children.
The children were true ambassadors of DC, exhibiting exemplary behaviour, politeness, and manners. These experiences are an essential part of a holistic and well-rounded education – the platform for future growth.

Our lives, and that of our students, often moves at a frenetic pace, and finding those moments of peace, or escapism often relies on music regardless of genre. Beyond its ability to just entertain or evoke an emotion, the physical act of playing a musical instrument and studying music offers an array of benefits that extend far beyond the musical elements.
Music crosses the boundaries of both academic and practical studies. Research has shown time and again that engaging with music can have a profound impact on cognitive function and even increase results in all aspects of a pupil’s education. Learning to play an instrument requires a complex mix of auditory, visual, and motor skills, stimulating various areas of the brain. Reading musical notation to coordinating finger movements, the brain is constantly challenged and strengthened through musical practice. Studies have even reported that musicians tend to have enhanced memory, attention, and executive function compared to non-musicians.
For me, the most important part of anyone’s musical experience is the social interaction and fostering an ethos of collaboration. Whether performing in an ensemble or participating within a music lesson, musicians often find themselves working closely with others towards a common goal where barriers are dropped, and everyone is on an even playing field. This collaborative aspect of music-making fosters essential interpersonal life skills such as communication, teamwork, and empathy. Through these shared experiences and mutual support, musicians learn to listen, compromise, and appreciate the contributions of others. Often it is these experiences that live on with young people for the rest of their lives.
In recent months, I have been astounded by the musical ability of our pupils at Doha College, and as a new member of staff in such a large community, it has taken time to get to know the vast array of talent. Last week, we travelled to Bahrain with a group of pupils to represent Doha College at the COBIS Music Festival.
Huge congratulations and well done to Chaoyi Sha who was awarded the Piano Upper School Award and COBIS 2024 Young Musician of the Year with his breathtaking performance of Thunder in Drought Season by the Chinese composer Peixun. Beginning his performance, Chaoyi dedicated this to his school peers, and dazzled the audience with his musicianship and virtuosity on piano. There was a high calibre of musicianship, with over 200 entrants from around the world, and particularly a large number within the keyboard category. Also, a keen and talent composer, Chaoyi spends time writing his own music and takes great joy in being able to express himself through his works ranging from the Baroque style (a particular favourite of Chaoyi’s) to Romantic and Chinese folk music. It is only fitting that he was awarded the Jeremy Hibbins Cup, bringing it to Doha College!
Well done!

University Fairs are an integral way for students to conduct their research on majors, university life, and location. They are also a great way to get to know the admission representatives and for them to meet with students and listen to their wants and needs. There will be a CIS international university fair on Thursday, 29 February at Northwestern University, Education, 4.30 pm – 6.30 pm.
Please use this link to register and to see the participating universities. Additionally, CIS has produced a document containing questions which might be useful alongside your own questions. You can find that link here.
