One of the great pleasures of my job is meeting so many pupils and parents. This last week has been particularly busy with a huge number of prospective parents and pupils visiting the College to learn more about the benefits of a Doha College education or enquire about the length of our waiting lists. Many of these families are wanting to join our community from one of the for-profit or franchise schools within the city. They frequently articulate a clear understanding of the benefits of our not-for-profit status. Knowing that every decision that Doha College makes is based on the best interests of our pupils really resonates with those that are used to an environment where owners, shareholders or wealthy schools overseas needs always come first.
This benefit of the College’s not-for-profit status is perhaps most apparent in staff retention and recruitment - and in Doha College’s low turnover rates. Within the for-profit sector, staff salaries and benefits tend to be kept artificially low. When a school is run on a commercial basis, higher staff salaries inevitably lead to less profit. As staff salaries are one of the easiest costs to control they are invariably kept below the market rate. This leads to challenges recruiting staff, more churn and more disruption for the pupils.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
