In distressing times such as these, it can be difficult and confusing for children and adults alike as they struggle to process the disturbing footage they may be seeing in the media. This can lead to feelings of fear and anxiety, which may negatively impact on their learning and mental well-being.
This includes:
Reassuring children that they are safe and being taken care of;
Helping children find comfort in familiar things;
Being there to listen to how your child is feeling;
Helping children express their feelings and worries;
Helping children to find constructive ways to express their feelings;
Helping children do activities that make them feel calm;
Limiting children’s exposure to distressing news and information;
Being honest with children in an age-appropriate way;
Helping children to keep routines.
There have been some enquiries from parents regarding a lunch service for children in our Primary School.
We have spoken to our catering providers, IFS, and we would be able to provide a prepacked lunch for approximately 125QR per week (5 meals) if we have sufficient demand.
Each meal would include:
water or fruit juice
main meal, such as pasta or a sandwich
salad or vegetable portion
a piece of fruit
small pastry
This prepacked lunch would be taken to your child's class for break time each day.

As we bid farewell to Black History Month, we couldn't have chosen a more inspiring figure to conclude our month-long celebration than Sheku Kanneh-Mason. Sheku's remarkable journey is a testament to the values of perseverance and commitment that we hold dear at Doha College. In our recent school assembly, we were privileged to delve into the life of this extraordinary young musician and understand the vital importance of these values in achieving one's dreams.
Sheku Kanneh-Mason, a British cellist of Sierra Leonean and Caribbean descent, has captured the hearts of millions worldwide with his incredible talent and dedication. At just 24 years old, Sheku has achieved what many can only dream of – he won the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 2016 and later gained international acclaim during Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding in 2018.
During the assembly, we learned that Sheku's journey to stardom was far from smooth. He faced countless challenges and obstacles that could have deterred him from pursuing his passion. Yet, his unwavering determination and resilience pushed him to persevere, practice tirelessly, and continue chasing his dream. Sheku's story reminds us that, in the face of adversity, it is essential to remain persistent and never give up. His example encourages us to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, ultimately leading to our own success. Sheku's commitment to mastering the cello is truly commendable. It's not just about practising; it's about the dedication to hone one's craft, regardless of the difficulties encountered. His commitment to his art and his dreams teaches us the significance of setting goals, staying focused, and working hard to achieve them. In our own lives, whether it's excelling in academics, sports, or any other passion, Sheku's commitment serves as an inspiration to stay dedicated to our goals. Like Sheku, we too, can overcome challenges and make our aspirations a reality.
As part of the Doha College community, Sheku's journey reminds us that the values of perseverance and commitment are not mere words but guiding principles that can lead us to success. We must strive to apply these values in our daily lives, both inside and outside the classroom. Our own stories are waiting to be written, and, like Sheku Kanneh-Mason, we have the power to create our destinies. Let Sheku's inspiring example be a lasting lesson as we celebrate the conclusion of Black History Month. We thank him for sharing his story with us, and we thank all of you for embracing the values of perseverance and commitment that define our school community.
Remember, with perseverance and commitment, there is nothing we cannot achieve.

Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well and filled with renewed energy as we dive into the second half of Term 1. It's wonderful to welcome our school community back after a refreshing break, where I trust each of you had the opportunity to recharge and rejuvenate.
At DC, we hold a profound responsibility to foster the growth of future leaders and stewards of society. We aim to nurture not just academically proficient individuals but also compassionate and globally conscious citizens. Our goal is to instil in our students a deep-rooted sense of care and concern for the environment and, of equal importance, for people worldwide.
It brings me great pride to witness the proactive involvement of our student Charity Committee. Their desire to initiate actions within the school that prompt collective reflection on pressing humanitarian issues is superb. This past Thursday, many of our students displayed solidarity with the Palestinian people through various meaningful initiatives. Their resounding message advocating peace and emphasising the importance of caring for others resonates powerfully within our community.
In these times of adversity, our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis. It is in moments like these that we witness the strength of community and the spirit of empathy and support.
Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement in our collective mission to shape responsible and empathetic future leaders.

Our goal is to create an educational and inspiring space where our students can learn about nature, sustainability, and the environment. If you have unused garden tools please do get in touch; we'll use them for CCAs and other learning activities. This will prevent the environmental impact of us buying additional items that are already available and just need a new home. We can make use of shovels, rakes, watering cans, flowerpots, or any other garden tools.
