At Doha College, we continuously reflect on our practices to ensure they best support our students' well-being and learning. I write today to inform you of a modest but important change to the implementation of our Class Reassignment Policy.
Starting from Term 1 of 25/26, class reassignments will take place only at the end of FS2 and at the end of Year 3. Classes will also be reallocated at the end of Year 6 as part of a carefully structured transition programme for those moving into the Secondary school.
This revised approach maintains the key benefits of reallocation while providing children with more consistency during their Primary years. By keeping class groups together for longer periods, we foster deeper social connections, enhance collaboration, and provide a more stable learning environment. At the same time, periodic reassignment ensures that children continue to develop adaptability and have the opportunity to learn alongside a wider range of peers.
We believe that reassigning at the end of FS2, gives our Foundation Stage children a greater opportunity to settle into school and to create deeper connections with their peers throughout the Foundation Stage. Moving into Year 1 is a big step and reassigning the classes at this stage allows us to ensure that the classes are balanced and that every child has the opportunity to succeed in this important transition. We will also reallocate whenever we add additional classes into the Primary school. Currently, this is at the end of Year 3 and the start of Year 4. Reallocating when adding classes is an important step to ensure that all children have balanced and supportive environments in which they can flourish. Where there are specific needs for an individual student, we will look at these on a case-by-case basis and I would ask you to speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance..
We believe that this balanced approach will benefit all students. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your child’s class teacher or AHT in the first instance, and I remain available every Wednesday at 7.30 am after Ramadan (or 8.40 am during the Holy month of Ramadan) in the Sports Cafe to chat this through with you personally should that be useful.
Thank you for your continued support.
