This week I had the great pleasure of attending the Friends of Doha College (FDC) Coffee Morning which included a fantastic presentation from Teresa Menton our Director of Digital Learning on how we are using AI within the College and how we are ensuring that pupil use of AI is as safe and learning-focused as possible. It was wonderful to see so many parents in attendance, and my huge thanks must again go to Dalia the Chair and the rest of the Committee for all of the wonderful events they have organised over the course of this academic year.
From the Spring Fair to the Community Iftar and from the Car Boot Sale to the regular Bake Sales, these events do not just provide an opportunity for the community to get together, they also raise funds that can be invested back into the College and the education we provide for the students. The College’s COO provides an update below as to how this year’s funds have been used and I would like to thank all members of the community for all they have done to contribute to this important work, and I look forward to seeing many of you at the FDC AGM on Sunday 19th May.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Principal
We recognise FDC brings so many benefits to the DC Community in addition to financial assistance. Chief amongst them would be the significant work they do, in their own time, to bring the community together and indeed I write this on the very day a number of FDC volunteers have been in selling cakes, some of whom actually remained in school and ‘on task’ for the whole day.
I take this opportunity in particular though to formally highlight the financial assistance they have enabled; a 58,000 QR total donation.
In March 2024:
FDC donated over 10,000 QR for our very special Community Iftar which was broadly a third of the total cost. We wished to provide a suitable setting and the rented chairs and tables helped make the occasion special but these came at a premium.
And we’re just placing orders for the following - 100% funded by FDC:
For Primary
Gross motor apparatus costing 13,000 QR - for the whole of EYFS to benefit from a large moveable climbing apparatus all year round.
Carpet costing up to 10,000 QR - to provide wall-to-wall carpeting for the KS1 Library to match that currently in the KS2 library.
For Secondary
BBC Microbit v2 Class Pack costing 11,000 QR - to provide significant enhancements to all KS3 students in CS and broader STEM subjects through provision of practical and fun experiences.
Sphero BOLT Power Pack and Code Mat costing 14,000 QR - providing the ability for pupils to code robots so they can learn coding in an interactive and hands-on manner.
Thanks of course goes to you all. The funds FDC kindly donates are from the contributions you all make. Watch this space for more ambitious projects to follow…

We are excited to announce our participation in Meatless May at Doha College to reduce our carbon footprint and environmental impact. Going meatless can significantly help the environment by lowering greenhouse gas emissions and preserving natural resources. Your support in this initiative would help our College's journey towards sustainability.
To help you participate in this, we are sharing our Doha College Vegetarian and Vegan Cookbook, here we have collated all of your wonderful recipes from our previous years' meatless initiatives, which can be found here. We thank you for your participation in creating these. This wonderful cookbook celebrates Meatless May and demonstrates our diversity as a community, as well as allowing us to try new recipes outside of our cultural norms. This has been a collaborative effort from the Eco Committee, DEI Committee and the Marketing team. We would love to see your photos of you taking part in Meatless March, so we encourage you to upload and share your participation via this Google Form.
To participate in the Great Eco Bake Off, kindly submit your recipe via the Google Form provided by Tuesday 30th April.
This bake-off is open to parents, students and staff, therefore prepare to bake something amazing! The only restrictions for the bake-off are that there is no meat in your recipes, these must be either vegan or vegetarian, and your recipe should not include nuts, as we are a nut-free school and you can only enter the competition once. If you or your child/children would like to participate, you can upload your recipe information on the link below: Recipe Upload Link
Further details about the event location and other important information will be shared once recipes have been submitted. We look forward to tasting your amazing dishes!
Your involvement and support in Meatless May are invaluable as we strive towards a more sustainable future. Thank you for being a part of our College's environmental initiatives.

At the start of a busy and exciting final term in Primary, I am writing to remind you of the main points of contact for you and your child if a pastoral or well-being issue arises. This letter also sets out the process for our annual class reassignment process, which will take place this term in preparation for next year. We recognise that this time of the school year is a period of change and transition, with a move into a new class and year group on the horizon for most of our children. Our Year 6 students will soon move onto Secondary education, and they will participate in our bespoke Y6-7 transition programme.
We understand that change can sometimes be unsettling and the Primary staff team are here to support you and your child if any difficulties arise. It is important to note that we recognise that some issues are confidential and sensitive and we treat these as such. Your first point of contact is your child’s class teacher who can be reached by email or through Class Dojo. You are also welcome to contact your child’s Head of Early Years or Assistant Headteacher, or myself as Deputy Head - Pastoral.
Acting Head of Early Years (FS1/FS2): Claire Rattray (crattray@dohacollege.com)
Assistant Head Years 1 and 2: Shainaz Dalvi (sdalvi@dohacollege.com)
Assistant Head Years 3 and 4: Scott McDiarmid (smcdiarmid@dohacollege.com)
Assistant Head Years 5 and 6: Lisa Finighan (lfinighan@dohacollege.com)
Deputy Head Pastoral: Danielle Price (dprice@dohacollege.com)
Important information regarding class reassignment across the Primary School
As per previous years, all Primary classes will be re-grouped for the start of the next academic year, and the process of forming new class groups will take place this term. We believe strongly in the benefits of grouping children alongside others with whom they have positive working relationships, and providing all children with the opportunity to expand their friendship group across the year group. This is in line with common best practice of high achieving international schools worldwide. Our staff work carefully to ensure that new classes are formed which will maximise the learning outcomes for each student and to ensure a dynamic and inclusive learning environment for all. All children will also have the opportunity across this term to participate in bespoke classroom sessions in preparation for this change, as well as our annual Move Up Day.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the class reassignment process, we encourage you to contact your child’s Assistant Headteacher or Acting Head of Early Years in the first instance. They will be more than happy to meet with you and discuss the process in more detail. Please note that unknown concerns that are raised with the school after the class lists have been finalised will not be able to be taken into consideration.
Our class reassignment policy is also linked here for your information.
We look forward to all the exciting events and opportunities planned for the children across this term. If a concern arises at any point, please do not hesitate to be in touch and we will work with you to implement the appropriate support for you and/or your child.

Primary Deputy Head - Pastoral
The final day for Year 13 was a whirlwind of emotions, blending joyous celebration with bittersweet goodbyes. Laughter filled the corridors as memories were shared and tears fell, acknowledging the end of a significant chapter. It was a day marked not only by camaraderie but also by the weight of significance, as each student reflected on the journey that led them to this moment. As they parted ways, there was a shared understanding that this day would linger in their memories for years to come. With exams on the horizon, they departed with well-wishes and encouragement, knowing that their futures awaited them, bright and full of promise. Here's to Year 13, embarking on a new chapter, carrying with them the indelible mark of an unforgettable day.

Prodigy: Offering robotics and coding workshops. Financial Literacy.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: Providing expert coaching and training sessions.
Awaken Doha: Meditation, yoga and sound healing.
Rebel Angels: Specialised dance and gymnastics classes.
From Sunday 28th April at 7:00 pm until Friday 3rd May at 7.00 pm , we are going to open join requests for your child/children to sign up for CCAs which are not yet at their maximum capacity. As usual, this sign-up process will be on our SchoolsBuddy iPad app or on the SchoolsBuddy website. Parents can log in with their iSAMS details, and children can sign up for their own CCAs using their usual school details.
We would also like to remind you of our previous Term 2 launch of the SchoolsBuddy iPad and mobile phone app. This app allows you to see your child/children’s CCA allocations, along with the correct day, specific location and the lead teacher. You can download the app from your app store, if you haven’t already.
The name of the app is SchoolsBuddy 2.0. Upon installing the app, type in Doha College and log in using your usual ISAMS username and password. As you click on the calendar button at the bottom of the screen, you will see your child/children’s CCA allocations for the remainder of Term 3. If your child/children changes their CCA, it’s important to log out of the SchoolsBuddy app and log back in again for the system to refresh with the new CCA allocations.
Students have access to the SchoolsBuddy app on their iPad already and we kindly request your encouragement in your child/children actively using this app.
If you need IT support with your login details, please email our IT help desk at help@dohacollege.com
Co-curricular activities play a pivotal role in the development of our young people for several reasons:
Skill development: CCAs offer opportunities for students to enhance their existing skills and develop them further. For example, baking supports the development of teamwork, following instructions, fine motor skills, problem solving, mathematics, creative thinking, and patience.
Sense of identity: Students are able to explore different interests and talents, helping them discover what they're passionate about and who they want to be as they grow up.
Social development: Students have the opportunity to interact with peers who share similar interests, foster new friendships, develop teamwork skills, and expand their social network.
Personal growth: Through fun challenges and experiences in CCAs, students can develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of accomplishment, which is invaluable for their personal growth.
University and career readiness: Many universities and employers look favourably upon applicants who have been actively involved in co-curricular activities, as it demonstrates a commitment to personal development and a willingness to go beyond basic requirements.
The list of benefits continues; therefore, as CCAs enhance the overall educational experience and contribute to the holistic development of your child/children, I would encourage you to ensure that your child/children are taking part in at least one CCA per week.
The safeguarding of our students is our utmost priority; therefore, we are providing library after school supervision from 2.05 pm to 3.05 pm for secondary students who need to wait for collection. Your assistance in reminding your child/children of this important message is greatly appreciated.
As always, thank you for your continued support and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at cca@dohacollege.com or vburns@dohacollege.com

Your child has received detailed instructions via email regarding how textbooks should be returned. Please note the following guidelines to assist us in keeping the process organised:
Location and Time for Returns: Textbooks can be dropped off at the secondary library or in the designated boxes located near the examination schedules by reception. The drop-off times are between 7:00 am and 2:00 pm.
Procedure: It is important that textbooks are not returned to class teachers, as this prevents effective tracking. Instead, please ensure that textbooks are returned at the end of each exam.
Accountability: Please be aware that any textbooks that are lost or not returned will result in a deduction from your school deposit. The final deadline for textbook return is Sunday, 17th June 2024.
Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me at rratnayake@dohacollege.com.
Thank you for your support.

Lots of insightful conversations were brewing at FDC Coffee Morning this week!
Thank you to parents who have joined us for a morning filled with warmth, connections, and enriching discussions.
Hear from our chair of the FDC Committee, Dalia, about today’s event:
“A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Menton, our Head of Digital Learning, for delivering an enlightening talk on AI risks and benefits at school. It was truly enlightening to delve into how DC harnesses the power of AI in core subject revisions while remaining vigilant about potential risks. Understanding how to maximise its benefits while safeguarding against pitfalls is crucial in today’s digital age.”
This week, we commemorated UN World English Language Day with an exciting bake sale!
Students explored quizzes from Macbeth and answered questions about Shakespeare’s education. They had the chance to win prizes as we celebrated the beauty and richness of the English language.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this bake sale; your generosity is much appreciated.
A heartfelt thank you to our FDC committee, who have organised this wonderful bake sale!

Below we have included the slides for Mrs Menton's engaging presentations on AI in education. During this week's FDC Coffee Morning parents were taken through Doha College's innovative AI strategies, showcasing how AI is seamlessly integrated into our curriculum to prepare students for tomorrow's challenges. From personalised learning experiences to cutting-edge tools, Mrs. Menton highlighted how Doha College is at the forefront of leveraging AI to nurture the next generation of leaders. The presentation also educated parents about the associated risks and how we overcome them, ensuring that all students are using it ethically and appropriately.
In addition, we have included Mrs Menton's previous presentation from the September FDC Coffee Morning which discussed Cyber Bullying and Challenges at digital age, and how the College addresses these challenges. The workshop provided parents with deeper understanding of challenges in the digital world and valuable insights about cyberbullying.
