This week in College, I was fortunate enough to spend time with our wonderful student volunteers who performed ball retrieval duties at the recent Under-23 Asian Games. It was so refreshing to hear about their selfless voluntary work and how well they represented the College.
Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us by Daniel Pink is a book that explores the science of motivation. Pink argues that traditional motivators like rewards and punishments are not as effective as we think, especially for tasks requiring cognitive skills and creativity.
Instead, he presents a new model based on three elements:
Autonomy: The desire to direct our own lives. People need the freedom to work in ways that they find engaging and meaningful.
Mastery: The urge to get better at something that matters. Continuous improvement and the pursuit of skill are strong motivators.
Purpose: The yearning to do what we do in the service of something larger than ourselves. Having a purpose adds a deeper sense of meaning to our work.
In short, according to Daniel Pink, the best way for our students to excel is for them to focus on these three areas rather than striving for extrinsic rewards.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Why Celebrate World Oceans Day?
World Oceans Day is a global event to highlight the crucial role oceans play in our lives. Oceans are vital for maintaining the planet’s biodiversity, regulating the climate, and providing food and livelihoods for millions. By celebrating this day, we raise awareness about the need to protect and help heal our oceans from threats like pollution, overfishing, and climate change.
Go Plastic-Free for a Day!
In addition to dressing up, we encourage everyone to make a positive impact by participating in a single-use plastic-free day. Let's reduce our plastic footprint by bringing reusable water bottles, lunch containers, and bags. Every small action counts towards a healthier ocean!
Please note, due to the Year 6 Graduation ceremony, Year 6 students should wear their full uniform on Sunday but can join in the fun by dressing up on Monday, 10th June instead.
Let's come together to show our support for ocean conservation and have a whale of a time!

As we come to the end of another successful term, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for your support in encouraging your child's involvement in our CCA programme. These enriching experiences play a vital role in their overall development and contribute to a well-rounded educational journey.
To celebrate the last week of CCAs, we invite you to drop in for a "Parent Peek" at one of your child's CCAs next week. This will happen during the last ten minutes of the session. Take a peek into your child's world and learn more about their CCA. Parents, kindly wait outside the door to be invited in by the CCA lead.
On behalf of the CCA team, I would like to wish you all a restful summer and I look forward to welcoming you back in September for another exciting term of CCAs.
