More commonly referred to as "man-eating plants" the yateveo is either a seemingly normal mushroom or weeping willow, underground pitcher plant, or a giant venus fly trap
Culture
the Yateveo genus is a uniquely dangerous group of carnivorous plants, and in one case fungus, that are specialized for hunting intelligent creatures. All species of Yateveo are found in the realm of plague, carnivorous, lack intelligence, and are capable of blending in with their environment.
Tree variant
The source of the genus's name. the tree variant of Yateveo mimics the looks of a regular Salix Babylonica or, as its colloquially referred to, a 'weeping willow', which are found commonly in the realm of plague, however instead of branches this plant has many large hanging glandular trichomes, or tentacles, covered in a unique mucilage thats so clear as to be barely visible in broad daylight.
once prey gets caught in the sticky mucilage struggling only results them getting more and more caught in the sticky trap. the lucky prey will die of exhaustion or asphyxiation, the unlucky prey will be slowly digested by the plants secretions
it breeds slowly, occasionally a trichome will fall off if this trichome manages to take root it will grow into a new Yateveo.
Trap Door variant
Probably the most grimly amusing varient of the Yateveo. Adventuring parties will normally check everywhere for traps in an cave or dungeon but rarely keep such a careful eye out in a forest.
This Yateveo is an enormous subspecies of Pitcher plant that completly forgoes sunlight by growing underground it is devoid of chlorophyll. how it survives without chlorophyll is by employing a variety of tactics. first its roots are brittle and weak but it grows alot of them directly above it so leaves, dirt, and other debris gathers on the roots so should somthing large, such as a scouting scaven slave, come by they will not notice the hole in the ground and step on the dirt over the weak roots resulting in them falling to their doom.second its digestive fluids mimic honey to attract a variety of insects and animals to this plants gooey embrace. and finally if there are just no signs of life anywhere nearby then the plants roots will grab hold of the roots of nearby plants parasitising them of their nutrients
the digestive fluids are a powerful psychedelic with its symptom activating upon touch. while under its effects creatures caught in the trap will drink more and more of the digestive fluids even as they melt from the inside.
this variant breeds similarly to the tree variant. roots that are broken off from the main plant by worms or other such creatures digging through the dirt may grow into a new plant. if removed from the ground the gourd of the plant is about 8' tall. it is capable of eating even a minotaur
Venus Flytrap varient
The most iconic varient of the yateveo few speak of the yateveo without at least mentioning this varient. this plants 'head' consists of 2-9 sections on which is contians teeth-like protrusions these protrusions are intended to allow smaller prey to escape its bite and larger prey to be caught in it. digesting only those that arent a waste of energy to consume. this varient of yateveo takes an active role in its meal preparing itself to attack oncoming prey. while i has no eyes it is capable of detecting heat signatures up to about 60 feet this allows it to turn its head to face its foe without compromising its camouflage.
in its 'mouth' are seeds smaller then the average insect. anything that manages to escape this creatures bite, small or large, will find itself acting as the plants carrier to spread itself to new areas as the seeds eventually fall off. giving it an average population growth.
while only about 3-4' tall most of its size is in its massive bulb which it uses to attack and is large enough to hold the entirety of an average skaven.
Fungus Varient
The most dangerous of the yateveo. this varient was created by the lord of plague himself, Antharg, the fungus of the yateveo looks no different then a regular edible mushroom. but once consumed it takes root in its victims stomach spreading spores through their body. the entire process is painless and a victim has no way of learning about the infection on their own. after the spores spread amongst their victims insides they will start to grow into fully functional fungi-organs and slowly replace the organs of their host. once there is enough fungus to take control of the brain then the final phase of the fungus occurs. the victim will be forced by the fungus to walk to a heavily populated area, along the way all the mushrooms inside the host will begins doing nothing but pumping the victims insides with more and more spores, once the victim arrives at the populated area the fungus will set off a chemical reaction isside its host causing them to explode spreading deadly spores all across the area and possibly causing injuries. should any spores find their way into noses, mouths, eyes, ears, or injuries then they may be infected by the very same fungus...continuing the process once more.
because of whats said above it has a high population growth and is about 1' tall
