Among the most powerful undead lies the lich. cunning, ingenious, powerful, and uncaring. should one have the gall to disturb one they will find themselves slaughtered with ease unless sufficiently high level and well-geared.
Culture
the lich is a powerful spell caster so obsessed with power or knowledge that he converted his very soul into a power conduit known as a phylactery. by pumping a phylactery with power a lich is able to live on even as his body dies.
liches are so powerful they give off a dark aura that weak creatures cannot help but flee from. on top of that due to their lack of need for a body they are immune to non-magical weapons.
when not casting powerful magics they learned over the years they can simply touch the fools that contest them should they succeed in touching the enemy they will not only suffer damage but be permanently paralyzed until someone cures them of paralysis.
while most liches were human, due to humans being the race most desperate to escape death, any intelligent race capable of magic can become a lich. including elves, halflings, an especially intelligent greenskin, or even a dragon. the ladder are reffered to as 'dracolichs'
History
the process of becoming a lich was first invented by the lord of death: Lord Bane. him and his followers consisted not only of the first liches but also some of the few true neutral liches
