this frightening looking creature is actually nothing more then a pest of nature it has 4 claws and 4 wings at adulthood, long whip-like tail with a stinger at the end, a long proboscis for blood drinking, and its body is pale red is color with the exception of its stomach and inner-wings which are tan.
Culture
these creatures used to be regular mosquitoes but with the direct influence of Melkor they are now the size of birds. the stirge is found all over the planet but only in the realm of famine are they the servants of melkor. considered his "warriors" the stirge are far more dangerous foe when aided by countless other insects all guided by a mind on-par with a super computer. in the wild free stirges are found in groups attacking anything with blood it can drain
in combat a stirge has 4 claws it uses for grabbing its foe and holding on until it can finish drinking they are not for attacking. once it finishes regardless of whether its victim is alive or dead it will leave. the extra set of wings are only used for flying if the original wings have been damaged otherwise they are used to make the stirge less noticeable or as an impromptu shield. the stirges stingers is a defensive tool used when a foe is swinging at them, the stirge will use the stinger on the limb being used to attack them if successful the limb will go numb and limp making the owner unable to use it. a saving throw vrs poison is required to prevent this
a single stirge can drain enough from a human to leave them on the brink of passing out, 2 will force you to a hospital, and 3 will kill you. the stirge 'natural' prey are dinosaurs. since 10 can drink fully from one and at most it will feel a little drowsy
other differences between a stirge and a mosquito are: the stirge does not only collect blood to feed its young it also feeds off the blood, male stirges also suck blood, the stinger insertion is painful but once the drinking is over there is no itching left behind, stirges are 'dead-end' carriers and do not contribute to the spreading of diseases, stirges fly away from light sources instead of towards them
