Golems are servants created from various medium to serve their master until they or their master is destroyed. these primitive robots are 'programmed' via magic or magic inscriptions on their outside.
Culture
Elemental Golems
the servants of mages the elemental golems are formed by painstakingly gather a large amount of the same material then creating a body in a generally humanoid shape. there is no magic in this part of the process so the mage better have some hard working servants/friends, have money to pay somone to do it, or time and willingness to do it themselves
the process continues with the mages then inscribing the golem with magic. these inscriptions make the inside of the golem mimic the elemental planes, force loyalty to the creator, and imbue the golem with basic commands such as 'defend yourself against an aggressor'. because of all this being made into a golem is actually more comfortable then simply being summoned as a elemental. once all of that is done you simply cast a summon elemental spell on the golem and youve got a servant at your beck and call until you or it is destroyed
golems magical inscriptions can also give them abilities like regeneration, move through [golem medium] as air, eat [golem medium] to heal, etc. and the elemental can give their container abilities. some examples would be a greater air golem can use air punch or create gust, greater earth golems have a bonus to damage and can punch through things like walls with ease, and water elementals can use nearby water sources as fuel for projectiles like icelance or waterjet and can freeze wet enemies
there are 3 kinds of elemental golem Lesser, Greater, and Fire. Lesser golems are made when you place a elemental into a golem that isnt appropriate to the elemental inside. greater golems are made when a elemental is placed in its appropriate golem. and a fire golem is any golem with a fire elemental inside
the preferred containers go as such:
Air Elementals: Hay, Wood, Hedge
Earth Elementals: Stone, Metal, Clay
Water Elementals: Crystal, Glass, Sculpted Ice
you may notice that fire elementals arent included, they are able to be placed into any medium without consequences...besides the fact that they rapidly burn through every container they are placed in. while they eventually destroy their container fire golems are still widly used. For a fire golem is far more powerful then a fire elemental, and its more powerful still the more flammable the container. when war is met against a powerful mages many a soldier came home with horror stories on how a normal scarecrow turned into a flaming monstrosity that ravaged their battalion before being destroyed, not by the soldiers but simple from burning out.
fire golems are fast, their speed dependant on their medium, and even ones that would takes weeks to burn through can easily outrun a minotaur running full speed. fire pumps out of fire golems at a staggering pace causing most anything nearby one to ignite into flames this is the golems main way of fighting lighting everything on fire and then throwing more fire at them and hoping it works. this however can cause extensive property damage or friendly fire if not used properly
Necromatic Golems
necromatic golems are nothing like other other golems but people still call them this so they are listed here. necromatic golems are 'golems' made from flesh or bone that serve a necromancer. once again while they are called golems they are actually a form of undeath, they do not contain elementals, nor are they supposed to. flesh or bone can not be used as a container for anything but fire elementals. and putting a fire elemental in one will cause it to attack its creator
the undead flesh and bone golems are a moderate level undead and so are able to listen to relatively advanced commands without confusion. undead golems vary in size dependent on the amount of material used to make them and the shape that the necromancer made them but they are generally humanoid.
flesh golems being nothing more then a mound of flesh in a humanoid shape are highly resistant to blunt damage. being nothing but bones a bone golem is similar for piercing and slashing, needs to be magic to work. should a flesh or bone golem be made with multiple limbs or a mouth with teeth the golem wont shy away from using it all in combat
while a elemental golem is powered by the elemental inside a necromatic golem, just like any undead, must be directly fueled by the necromancer
History
it is said that there is a forbidden blood mage spell that can summon a 'blood golem' that turns a mound of bodies into a living quasi-abomination whos life is connected to the castor. this blood golem is said to look inside-out with its bones on the outside and its blood magically flowing around the bones
