Culture
the giant insects are the limbs of the hivemind known as Melkor. each insect has all its abilities it had when it was small but on such a larger scale they suddenly become a major danger. when under the direct command of Melkor the insects move with the intellect of a super-computer attacking targets strategically, aiming for weakpoints, and coordinating their attacks to minimize losses. that said normally melkor wont bother with such things, instead focusing on things like food management, tunnel digging, and his own personal plans so he leaves many insects to think for themselves.
insects not under the command of melkor are as smart as any normal insect but 10 times more aggressive. these insect will attack anything that isnt under melkors command, one of the subjects of the land of famine, or melkor himself wills them not too.
when not fighting or under melkors command these insects default to their instincts: finding food and breeding. once the food is found melkor normally takes over to manage it or they simply eat it.
History
melkor didnt start out with countless insect variety, originally he was a hivemind of a giant ant colony that evolved him and their size naturally. once he obtained sentience he experimented with making other insects giant and bringing them under his command. with his intellect he found a way
