The mummy is a moderate level undead creature and most advanced kind of zombie, they look like a emaciated zombie wrapped up in linen
Culture
necromancers mostly only use them when there is access to mummified corpses. outside of such areas a necromancer would have to mummify a fresh corpse himself which is normally seen as too much effort. when they are successfully summoned they are a tough foe constantly producing a fear aura making any would-be enemies roll vrs spell or be paralyzed in fright, a mummys touch causes disease, and reduces all healing to 10% the norm until said disease is cured
as for defenses a mummy is immune to normal weapons and even magical weapons it only takes half damage, in order to deal full damage you must strike it with a holy weapon. another way to damage a mummy is it takes full damage from all fire sources and from being hit by holy water
within the confines of deserts it is possible for a mummy to rise on its own. in order for this to happen the person that had been mummified must have a strong connection to this world such as greed so strong they dont want to surrender their wealth even in death, hatred that has twisted their mind to its very core, fear of death overriding any concept of right and wrong, etc these powerful evil thoughts will linger with the body even in death. attracting corrupt magics to it should a taint shoot start to grow inside of the mummy it will rise. the only differences between a normal mummy and a natural mummy is a natural mummy has a taint shoot inside of it causing other undead to rise around it
Another possible form of a mummy is that of a 'greater mummy' a greater mummy is the equivalent of a lich and a mummy combined instead of phylacteries the greater mummy has jars of its own organs from life that have been revived. every organ destroyed weakens the mummy until they are all destroyed and the mummy dies. these are by far the rarest form of mummy, because the creation of such a mummy requires somone to be loyal enough to the person being mummified to actually revive them instead of abandoning them to their fate. because of that the only greater mummies anyone will find are ones that were great pharaohs in life. only individuals of such renown have followers willing to go to such lengths to have them return.
History
King Tootenhamen is the most famous pharaoh to ever exist not just because of his legacy in life but because in death he had followers that raised him as a greater mummy and enough soldiers were buried with him to march forth and claim his empire anew
