the elusive doppelganger is very rarely seen in its true form, even by itself but should you see a doppelgangers true form you would see a grey lanky alien thats looks as if it is on the brink of starving to death, devoid of gender this being only really shows this form if it is curious about what it truly looks like and wants to see

doppelgangers are the best assassins to ever exist, capable of replacing anyone by transforming into them then using esp to read the minds of people close to the replaced to figure out how to act, however their one downfall is that doppelgangers are immensely lazy and refuse to ever replace somone who has to actually work for their occupation which is why nobles who can sit around and do nothing all day while being cared for by servants make for perfect doppelganger prey

doppelgangers are most commonly found in castles or royal estates having long replaced a noble and taken their place or were simply born to a long replaced noble. somtimes a doppelganger doesnt even need to replace somone and simply turns into a beautiful woman and gets the noble to fall for it. when not living a life in luxury they will seek out a way to live that life desperately avoiding other work unless they absolutely have to do it

since doppelgangers are genderless breeding with one isnt actually breeding but a strange form of cloning. the child will always be an exact copy of the mother, if the mother is human she will give birth to herself. if she is the doppelganger she will give birth to a baby that instinctively will transform into either a boy or girl that has mixed looks of the parents but nonetheless will be a clone of the doppelganger mother

History

it is said that doppelgangers are artificial beings created long ago to act as assassins, thieves, and spies in some ancient war. while their creator has long died and the war has long ended they still play that part today. while this rumor has no supporting evidence there is no opposing evidence either
