Kobolds or Kobolgs as they are also referred too as, are small guinea-pig-like creatures. they are furry but have patches of skin left exposed causing it to seem like it suffers from mange. commonly used as the lowest foot soldiers they are useless in combat unless the opponent is outnumbered.
Culture
when people are talking about how weak goblins are there's always that one guy that says "well at least their stronger then kobolds" and he is right, the only thing more cowardly and weak then a goblin is a kobold. so you may ask "why bother with one?" quite simply its because the difference between the two is kobolds, despite their cowardice, are very loyal and no matter what opponents chase them if the kobold survives he will return to his master like a good little servant. because of this they are popular even among non-evil wizards as 'assistants'
when not serving some evil overlord en-masse kobolds are ironically solitary creatures. they will find some long forgotten cave and live their life by themselves or at most find a mate. even though Kobolds commonly serve evil they are accepted by most cave dwellers due to their odd nature of helping those who get trapped or lost. when not helping some unfortunate passer-by they run from everything that finds them
History
The only kobold to ever make a name for itself was Pharia, living in a abandoned mineshaft he found a hole that seemed to be glowing. after grabbing a pickax left behind in the shaft he dug out whatever was glowing. this strange rock was larger and looser then expected falling out from the wall as Pharia dug at it hitting him in the head. when he came too all that was left of the rock was a small glowing pebble but for some reason Pharia was far more intellegent then before...and obsessed. he would eventually become the only kobold archmage to ever exist and dedicate his life to studying the stone. he never learned what he wanted too and to this day Pharia's stone is a mystery bringing nothing but headaches to any who try to continue Pharias work
