somtimes referred to as "wargs with wings" the cruel monster known as the gargoyle they have extremely large wings due to a single gargoyle weighing more then a boulder and their looks have been described as if looking like some sort of demon
Culture
the gargoyle only really needs to eat once in its lifetime for they are able to enter stoneform, stone form is a stasis that a gargoyle can enter at will while in this stasis the gargoyle is fully aware of their surroundings, does not need to eat or drink, and rapidly heals. the downside to stoneform is the gargoyle cant move, so if it wishes to move it must return to its normal form
even though a gargoyle only really needs to eat once if it spends its life in stoneform...but a gargoyle will never do that due to its love of cruelty. any creature that dares cross a gargoyles path will find it the prey to its whims. gargoyle are rarely hungry when they first leave stonefrom so they normally spend most of their time with others ripping them open and watching the still living creature twitch in pain until it gets hungry
a gargoyle will only be found where it can use its stoneform to blend in. on the top of a pillar in the ruins is the perfect area for a gargoyle to perch pretending to be a statue. should an enemy that may actually put up a fight pass by a gargoyle will use the element of surprise as it attacks
a gargoyle is not immune to petrification, but all petrification does is force the gargoyle into stoneform the gargoyle will take advantage of this if it happens to use a surprise attack again when it sees the opportunity. because of this the gargoyle is one of the only creatures that hunt basilisks and medusa.
History
not all gargoyle are born smart enough to be cruel. some are so stupid they are animalistic, or neutral. one such gargoyle is said to have been made into a pet by the lord of death
