the noble griffon is a beauty to behold, with the front half of a eagle and the back half of a lion the griffon is both a powerful adversary and loyal mount.
Culture
making their homes on the top of natural stone pillars and being all round stubborn as a race domesticating a griffon is no easy task but those that succeed in doing it can swim in gold. for domestication is the hardest part of a griffon, training is easy. and royal knights pay large sums of money to obtain one
the griffon is much like the dolphin it is able to recognize intelligent creatures from beasts and will even come to the aid of one that seems to need help and will avoid attacking them unless they move near to the griffons eggs. griffons however are not playful
Hippogryphs
a subrace of griffon the Hippogryph is beloved by elves of all kind save the darkelves. it is much like its griffon cousin except it has the hind-end of a deer instead of a lion, antlers, and the tail of a horse.
hippogryph rarely fight griffon except over territorial disputes and they never fight them to the death nor do they eat each other. an especially adventurous breeder can even mate them, but the children dont come out much different then one of their parents (50/50%)
