Naga

Naga or more simply called "fish people" are humanoids that are sea serpents below the waist, the males have a crocodilian head, and they are most humanoid in the torso and (for the woman) head but are scaled, have fins protruding from various areas, and a multitude of soft spines

Culture

the naga are a warrior race with a racial proverb they live by that says "you keep what you kill" this is how naga decide who their leader is, its how they get things, its how they lose things. a nagas life is a life of combat

naga are amphibious so can breath water and air equally, and unlike mermaids who need to stay wet constantly naga only need to be conserned about such things if they enter a desert. thats why you will only find naga in the realm of war if they are on the northern most edge, near where desert meets ocean. naga settlements can be found on the edges of the ocean anywhere in the world as well as covering the ocean floor

due to the nagas focus on strength they look down on races weaker then them; elves, halflings, gnomes, goblins, and female naga; see races of similar strength as equals; humans, amazons, orcs, and dwarves; and look up to races that are stronger; ogres, giants, and minotaurs

the warrior passion they have is what decided both their loyalty and who owns somthing, naga 'traders' are just warriors that say "you want somthing? fight me, win, you get everything." in addition the only times naga do not fight to the death is over leadership positions. so if one feels the need to spare a naga they had defeated they will find said naga acting as their loyal servant following them around

naga kings are always the strongest naga, should one defeat a naga king in battle, regardless of if they kill him, they will become the new king. like other aquatic races naga's preferred weapons are spears, tridents, and other piecing weapons

naga women are looked down upon in naga society, both by themselves and by their males. they are treated as property when born and to gain access to naga women potential suitors must defeat the father in battle. naga are sentient however and should a female dislike their suitor they normally just leave. the suitor counts them as "lost property" and as the saying goes "finders, keepers". while not as strong as the men they are far more wise and generally more intelligent.

due to the mentality of their race men die alot, while women rarely do. this is why women do most of the tasks that arent fighting and dieing including, but not limited to, teaching, advising the king, priestess positions, mage work, and crafting

while naga are muscle heads they still understand fair fights. if somone challenging the naga tries to fight with more then one person the naga will call other naga to join the fight until its equal. they also understand that one vrs one fights arent reasonable when fighting krakens, scylla, giants, or other such foes. so they will gang up to make the fight more fair

History

in memory of the first naga king every naga that becomes king will change its name to 'Telchines'. for it is said that calling yourself by his name grants you the blessing of the most powerful naga king to ever live
