it is said that this creature is the stupid cousin of dragons now sporting two legs, an inability to breath fire, and lacking the resistance to melkor's influence. because of that last detail wyverns now have a scorpion tail
Culture
despite looking like it's clumsy and uncoordinated the wyvern is quite dexterous and will try to dodge incoming blows it can like any other creature. with their tough hide and violent attitude they make the skies of the realm of famine a dangerous place to tread
while a single wyvern isnt a problem by itself to skilled warriors the problem is that unlike their distant cousins, the dragons who even in their home realm are rare to see, there are normally multiple wyverns viewable in the sky at any given time from any point in the realm of famine. because of which they are an ever-present treat to any brave enough to enter
in combat the wyvern will dive onto prey, normally trying to stand on top of them so it can crush an enemy while it bites and swings its tail at the remaining foes. should it fail to land on top of an enemy it will flap its wings just above the ground creating a constant battering of air to make combat annoying for its foes as it swings its claws at them
wyverns make for dangerous mounts, not just as a benefit but also as a detriment. for wyverns are notoriously short-tempered and should their rider annoy them in any way the wyvern will let the rider know by stabbing them with its tail. so any would-be wyvern riders had best make sure their immune or they will find themselves the laughing stock of the closest tavern for dying to his own mounts venom
History
dragons are all born from the corpses of the original bodies of the dragon souls leaving no room for subraces, so how did a creature come to look so similar? the origin dragons fought viciously ripping at limbs and spilling blood the bits and pieces left behind were quickly fed on by maggots causing them to mature differently then intended and becoming the first wyverns
