Lycanthrope's or Lycans have many names but all contain "were" [ˈwer] followed by the secondary race only available due the disease known as "Lycanthropy" their looks vary both based off their original race and the race given to them by the disease
Culture
Lycanthropy is commonly referred to as a "curse" but this is a misconception in actuality it is a extremely hardy disease with powerful magic resistance making it immune to "cure disease" the infected individual does not have the same magic resistance however.
Despite being a disease lycanthropy has a very symbiotic relationship with the infected with its symptoms being:
there are some disadvantages that come with the disease however
*during this time you will most likely transform, this happens in order to prevent your death
1these effects can be resisted by individuals that have lived as lycanthropes for many years
2this event can be tracked via the full moon, the moment you are able to see the full moon is the same moment the infected individuals will berserk the timing however is purely coincidental and even if the infected is underground where they cannot see the moon or feel its rays they will still berserk
Lycanthropy has a major weakness that forces it down the path of symbiosis: the disease will instantly die if it isnt constantly moving. because of this is has to live inside of a living host and can only be spread through biting. a dead host will revert to its original form on death due to the disease dieing as well.
the most famous kind of lycantherope is the "werewolf" but they are but 1 example others include "werebear", "wereboar", "werelion", "wereshark", "wererat", "werebat", "wereman", etc. in addition not all lycanthropes were originally human. a werewolf may have originally been a rat that survived being bitten by a different werewolf
how lycanthropy decides what to turn the new host into is dependent upon the biters original race then the current race of the bitten via this equation: if(b=c) then (ca) else (cb) where a=original race of biter b=sub-race of biter c=race of bitten, carriers do not count as biters in this equation the one that made them carry the disease in the first place do.
when infected with lycantropy you have 1 day to eat enough "Aconitum" to poison yourself before you are permanently infected (Aconitum will still be an effective way to commit suicide however) assuming you survive the poison you will be cured. while lycanthropy is a powerful disease that can effect a multitude of races there are some that it simply has no effect on or has a much harder time infecting:
Big creatures: the size of a creature plays a major part in how well the disease takes root so enormous creatures like giants, cyclops, kraken, leviathans, and dragons takes so long for the disease to take root that their immune system is able to overpower it making such creatures unable to even act as carriers.
Greenskins: they are technically a kind of fungus so they are not effected by many diseases but they can act as carriers
Dwarves: dwarves are extremely hardy it can take as many as 5 bites just to infect one in addition the dwarf has 8 days to eat "Aconitum" before the disease finishes taking root. in addition "Aconitum" is not poisonous to dwarves and is a common ingredient in powerful dwarven brews due to its bitterness and burning sensation that dwarves associate with any good beer. in humans the burning sensation is followed by a numbness of the mouth
Undead: this should be obvious but the undead cannot be affected by diseases, THIS INCLUDES VAMPIRES
Dopplegangers: disease is unable to effect their complicated genecode so they can only act as carriers
