the rampaging war boar is also referred to as "War-t'hog" by jesters but a soldier will not find the joke funny if they had faced one on the battlefield. this creature is death in the form of a pig and anyone that underestimates it in battle will die a horrible death
Culture
the war boar is a curious creature, its brain is comparable to a regular pig but the chemicals that its brain produces drive it into an endless fury thats so extreme that in the wild a war boar will commonly be unable to breed or eat because of how drastic its berserking, survival in the wild is based off pure luck more then anything else, which is why their usually never seen.
but then an ork found one.
war boars are bred, forcefully, by goblins corralling them. allowing them to grow in number to an extent that in the wild is impossible. the war boar births a grand total of 30-50 young per mate cycle (assuming the mother survives the breeding process and until it can birth) the young are born unconscious and will wake up a few minutes after birth. once awoken they will immediately berserk and will remain this way for the rest of their life in the wild only 4-6 would survive to adulthood. in a goblin corral more then 80% of those born survive to adulthood
because of this war boars are a staple of orkish life: their meat is used for food, their skin for leather, their bones for tools and essential building blocks for construction, their teeth and tusks as currency; horns; piercings; decorations; or occasionally...a club
the act of riding a war boar is less of an interaction between rider and mount and more of a stampede stabbed until it goes in a certain direction with an ork holding on. the better the ork is at holding onto the boar the better a war boar rider he is. should the rider die the boar wil continue on its path of destruction regardless, even if that path happens to go strait into a platoon of orks or even if it means killing its dismounted rider before resuming its warpath
while hundreds or even thousands will be found in an orkhold in the wild they are solitary due to their inability to not kill whatever is in front of them
History
War boars and orks have been closely tied since time immemorial it is said that the very first attacks the orks waged on civilized races was on the backs of War Boars
